9th-12th Grade Education at Apt Academy

Preparing Students for Purpose, Responsibility, and What Comes Next

High school is when students begin to fully step into who they are and who they are becoming.

They are taking ownership not only of their education but also of the choices they’re making about their future. It is more important than ever that they are appropriately challenged and guided as they make these moves.

Apt Academy’s high school program is rooted in traditional Christian values, including:

  • Kindness and mutual respect
  • Personal responsibility and accountability
  • Discipline and a strong work ethic
  • Clear, honest communication
  • A safe, structured learning environment
  • Leadership, initiative, and service to others

These years are about more than academics; they are about preparing students for real life.

As students take on greater independence and decision-making, they must be in an environment that reinforces structure, values, and purpose. For many families, traditional high school environments no longer provide that foundation.

Apt Academy offers a focused, values-aligned school where students can complete their education, develop direction, and prepare for what comes next without distraction.

A High School Program Focused on Completion, Direction, and Readiness

Our high school program has a clear goal: to prepare students for and support them through successful GED completion. Rather than following a rigid, one-size-fits-all timeline, students:
  • Progress based on readiness and mastery
  • Build the knowledge and confidence needed to pass the GED
  • Receive individualized support along the way
Coursework will prepare students for the test as well as potential college coursework or career opportunities. Apt Academy will help students focus on practical outcomes and student success. This approach allows students to move forward with clarity—knowing they are working toward a meaningful and achievable milestone.

A Personalized Approach That Builds Independence and Ownership

High school students are preparing for adulthood, and that requires both academic capability and personal responsibility.

Our program will:

  • Individualized instruction based on ability and goals

  • A structured, distraction-free learning environment

At this stage, students are expected to take greater responsibility for their work while being guided by teachers who are invested in their success.

Beyond the GED: Exploring Career Paths and Real-World Opportunities

Earning a GED is an important milestone, but for many students it’s not the end of the journey, and many students need ongoing support. At Apt Academy, students receive continued support after GED completion to allow them to explore their next steps. Depending on age, readiness, and goals, students may:
  • Begin college coursework
  • Participate in internships with local businesses or professionals
  • Explore trade skills and career pathways
  • Gain real-world experience in areas of interest
This phase is about helping students connect education to opportunity.

Developing Direction, Confidence, and Leadership

By the time students reach high school, they are thinking more deeply about their role in the world or what they’d like their role to be.

At Apt Academy, students are encouraged to:

  • Identify their strengths and areas for development
  • Recognize opportunities within their communities
  • Develop a strong work ethic and sense of responsibility
  • Think critically and act with purpose

Students leave our program with:

  • A clearer sense of who they are
  • The ability to evaluate opportunities and challenges
  • The confidence to pursue meaningful paths forward

In many cases, we will help students prepare not just to follow a path, but to create one that excites them about the future.

A Structured Environment That Keeps the Focus on What Matters

In traditional high school environments, students often face significant distractions and competing priorities. Their exposure to opportunities after they graduate or upon completing their GED may be limited. At Apt Academy, we take a different approach:
  • Keep the focus on education and outcomes
  • Maintain clear expectations and accountability
  • Provide a calm, structured environment
  • Support students as individuals, not just as part of a system
  • Help students create goals, determine a path, and set a plan to achieve it
Students can stay focused, make progress, and prepare for life beyond school.

About Tristan Holechek

My name is Tristan Holechek, and I teach the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades for Apt Academy.  I grew up in Molalla, Oregon, graduating from Molalla High School in 1993.  Following high school, I attended Oregon State University where I majored in agricultural business management.  After obtaining my Bachelor of Science, I did not feel like the corporate world was for me.  Therefore, I went back to Oregon State University and completed a master’s degree in education.

Apt Academy has been a wonderful opportunity, and I wholeheartedly believe in our mission of providing a Christian based education to our students.
