Sharing Skills and Building Community Through Volunteer Opportunities

At Apt Academy, we believe students learn from the people and communities around them. While teachers can help them focus on academics, our local community also plays an invaluable role in their education. Whether it’s guest speakers, reading partners, mentors, or local support, our students benefit from a community actively invested in their learning. Further, for students to value education, they must also see it valued by their community. That’s why Apt Academy asks local community and business leaders, parents, family, and friends to share their time, experience, and skills with our students.

Volunteer Opportunities

Parent/Teacher Association (PTA)

Apt Academy doesn’t just encourage our students’ parents and guardians to be engaged with the school; we need them. Our PTA subcommittees help us plan and manage school activities and organize and assist with everything from fundraising and donations to social media and community events.

Our early learners are just discovering the joy of reading and their newly acquired reading skills. There are few things they love more than sharing these new skills with reading partners. We need adults who enjoy reading, hearing a good story, and maybe occasionally helping with a new word or two, who can come read with our early elementary students.
Who couldn’t use a second set of hands? From intensive art projects to classroom parties/celebrations, our teachers can often use a second set of hands (and eyes). Classroom parents come in to help during special events or projects, or outside the classroom, with organizing and prepping.
Throughout the year, Apt Academy participates in scheduled and ongoing can drives to collect funds for the school. We need volunteers willing to coordinate collection and drop-off. And, we welcome your can donations!
We have a talented community, and our students would love to learn from you. From woodworking and auto repair to cooking, sewing, and other skills, we’re hoping to include hands-on skill-sharing to help our students explore practical, real-world skills that will support their success in life and future careers. Some opportunities may be one-time sessions or project-based, but we’d also love to include longer-term projects and workshops.
Many of our students are just beginning to explore what life might look like after they finish their education. Career day provides an opportunity for them to learn about a variety of career paths, hear directly from professionals across different industries, and begin considering the skills, education, and experiences they might need to shape their future.
We like to dream big, and one way we’re doing that is with our latest expansion. With that expansion comes a few bigger projects that we’ll need help with, but the added bonus is the opportunity to teach repair and building skills to our students!
