- About The Classroom
Language Arts: This class will provide the student with an intensive course of study into grammar, literary elements, essay composition, creative writing, and reading. Class begins each day with grammar exercises. This is followed by writing exercises and practice. The class finishes with reading comprehension applications.
Math: In math, students are grouped by ability. A course of study ranging from numerical operations to statistics is followed. Students must show proficiency with each idea before they are allowed to move on to the next lesson. In order to gauge student progress, weekly quizzes are given. Furthermore, end of chapter tests should be anticipated. Not only are students required to know concepts, they should also be prepared to study math related vocabulary. Math is taught through direct instruction, practice problems, white-board problems, word problems, and games where possible.
Science: This year, biological concepts will be covered. Students will have the opportunity to learn about living things from the cellular level to community relationships. This class will be as hands-on as possible with labs pertaining to the safe-use of lab equipment, units of measure, the scientific method, and plant reproduction (this list is not exhaustive).
